01.08.2016 – 08.01.2017 Meine Mutter / My mum

Meine Mutter Hendrika Vermeulen ist meine beste Freundin: Sie ist mit viel Humor, Offenheit und Weisheit bestückt… und immer für mich da! : )

Sie wurde 1935 in Utrecht, Holland, geboren und kam nach dem 2. Weltkrieg für 1 Jahr in die Schweiz zu einer Pflegefamilie, bis das zerbombte Utrecht wieder bewohnbar war. Meine Mutter erzählte mir oft von ihren schrecklichen Kriegserlebnissen und dem grossen Hunger… dieses Trauma begleitete sie ihr ganzes Leben… Sie kam als 10-Jährige in die Schweiz mit dem Zug und einem Zettel um ihren Hals – vielleicht war das der Anfang ihrer Reise- und Entdeckungslust?

My mother Hendrika Vermeulen is my best friend: She is full of humour, openness and wisdom... and always there for me! : )

She was born in Utrecht, Holland, in 1935 and after the Second World War she was sent to Switzerland to live with a foster family for a year until bombed-out Utrecht was inhabitable again. My mother often told me about her terrible experiences of the war and the great hunger... this trauma stayed her whole life... She came to Switzerland as a 10-year-old by train with a note around her neck - perhaps that was the beginning of her love for travelling and discovering?

Auf jeden Fall kaum alt genug, kaufte sie sich in Holland eine Lambretta und fuhr damit nach England um englisch zu lernen. Mit im Gepäck war ihre Gitarre und sie schloss sich schon bald Musikbands an. Später fuhr sie über die Schweiz nach Italien um italienisch zu lernen. Natürlich hielt sie in der Schweiz an um ihrer Pflegefamilie zu besuchen und während eines dieser Besuche, als sie abends ein Konzert gab, lernte sie meinen Vater kennen… Auch er war Ende des 2. Weltkrieges mit seiner Familie aus Berlin in die Schweiz geflüchtet.

In any case, she was barely old enough, when she bought a Lambretta and drove from Holland to England to learn English. She brought her guitar with her and soon joined music bands. Later she drove to Italy via Switzerland to learn Italian. Of course she stopped in Switzerland to visit her foster family and during one of these visits, when one evening giving a concert, she met my father... He too had fled to Switzerland with his family from Berlin at the end of the Second World War.

Ihre Ehe hielt zwar nur 13 Jahre und war alles andere als rosig… aber nach ihrer Scheidung hatten wir endlich Zeit alles bei konstruktiven Gesprächen zu verdauen – meine Mutter arbeitete damals als Arbeitstherapeutin in einer Klinik für Suchtkranke und führte mich in die Welt der Psychologie ein…

Jedes Jahr fuhren wir nach Holland, das ich seit meiner Kindheit kenne. Als ich 16 Jahre alt war, lud meine Mutter mich zu meinem ersten Flug ein: Wir machten London für 1 Woche unsicher! ; ) 5 Jahre später, als ich 1 Jahr in Los Angeles (Kalifornien) verbrachte, besuchte sie mich für 1 Monat und wir fuhren mit dem Auto durch die westlichen Staaten… unbeschreiblich wild… ; )

Their marriage only lasted 13 years and was anything but rosy... but after their divorce we finally had time to digest everything in constructive conversations - my mother was working as an work therapist in a clinic for addicts at the time and introduced me to the world of psychology...

Every year we went to Holland, which I have known since my childhood. When I was 16, my mother invited me on my first flight: We went flew to London for a week! ; ) 5 years later, when I spent a year in Los Angeles (California), she visited me for a month and we drove through the western states... indescribably wild... ; )

Meine eigene Beziehung mit dem Vater meiner Tochter Melanie war ebenfalls alles andere als rosig… er hatte nie Zeit für uns und verbrachte seine freie Zeit lieber mit seinen Kumpels. Da ich meine Mutter hatte, war da nicht so schlimm – mit ihr hatte ich eh viel mehr Spass! Und wir waren ein fantastisches Dreiergespann: meine Mutter, Melanie und ich! Zusammen haben wir viele kleinere und grössere Reisen im In- und Ausland unternommen und immer eine tolle Zeit verbracht! : )

My own relationship with the father of my daughter Melanie was also anything but rosy... he never had time for us and preferred to spend his free time with his friends. Since I had my mum, it wasn't that bad - I had a lot more fun with her anyway! And we were a fantastic trio: my mother, Melanie and I! Together we went on many short and long trips in Switzerland and abroad and always had a great time! : )

06. - 31.07.2016 Was esse ich heute? / What do I eat today?

Nahrung - wie Aufmerksamkeit - ein Grundbedürfnis aller Wesen um gedeihen zu können...

Ich betrachte es als sehr wichtig, was wir uns selber zuführen - sei es nun geistige oder körperlich Nahrung, was beides der Seele zu gut kommt (oder eben nicht)! Geistig habe ich mich mein Leben lang mit vielen Philosophen und Wissenschaften beschäftigt und was den Körper betrifft, so sehe ich Ruhe (Schlaf), frische Luft, Bewegung und Nahrung als das A und O.

In diesem Kapitel möchte ich mich mit der Ernährung beschäftigen, denn auch die Nahrung formt uns, wie alles was wir zu uns nehmen! Während 20 Jahren habe ich meine Kochkunst an verschiedenen Rezepte ausprobiert und hatte immer eine ausgewogene Vielfalt im Blick. Mein Fokus stand und steht immer noch auf Trennkost, auf die ich in meiner Jugend kam ohne ihren Namen zu kennen... Meine Absicht war: möglichst vielfältig zu essen ohne schwer zu verdauen, denn Nahrung soll Energie bringen nicht verbrauchen!

Food - like attention - a basic need of all creatures to thrive...

I consider it very important what and how we nurish ourselves - mental or physical food, both of which are good for the soul (or not)! Mentally I have studied many philosophers and sciences throughout my life and as far as the body is concerned I see rest (sleep), fresh air, exercise and food as the be-all and end-all.

In this chapter I would like to deal with nutrition, because food also shapes us, like everything we take in! For 20 years I have tried out my culinary art on various recipes having always a balanced variety in mind. My focus was and still is on food combining, which I came across in my youth without knowing its name... My intention was: to eat as varied as possible without being difficult to digest, because food should bring energy not consume it!

29.02. – 14.04.2016 Schweiz: Steuern / Switzerland: Taxes

Ich bin wieder zuhause und erhielt einen extra Tag um mich zu akklimatisieren… 2016 ist ein Schaltjahr! Meine aktive Zeit auf den grossen Antillen in der Karibik, die ich meist draussen in der Natur verbrachte, wich einer besinnlichen Zeit… denn in der Schweiz herrscht zu dieser Zeit der Winter. Ich genoss es viel Zeit für mich zu haben: um nachzudenken, meditieren und schreiben… Beim regelmässigen Joggen an der frischen Luft erhielt mein Körper, Geist und Seele viele neue Inputs! : )

I am back home and got an extra day to acclimatise... 2016 is a leapyear! My active time on the Greater Antilles in the Caribbean, which I spent mostly outside in the nature, gave way to a contemplative time... in Switzerland at this time it is winter. I enjoyed spending time with myself: to think, meditate and write... By going for runs in the fresh air regularly, my body, mind and soul received many new inputs! : )

Alle Jahre wieder bringt die Post ein Couvert von der Gemeinde: Die alljährlichen Steuern müssen bis Ende März eingereicht werden. Wem macht das schon Spass!? Vielleicht die, die dabei etwas verdienen sie für andere auszufüllen?? – Arbeit für etwas, das man noch bezahlen muss, steht sicher bei niemandem zuoberst auf der Liste… dann noch selber ausfüllen, was dann eh kontrolliert wird - das bedeutet ja doppelte Arbeit! Vielleicht sollte man den ganzen Vorgang umkehren: Kontrollieren ist zufriedenstellender als ausfüllen und kontrollieren lassen…

Every year again Swiss Post brings an envelope from the community: The annual taxes must be submitted by the end of March. There is hardly anybody having fun completing it!? Maybe those who earn money doing it for others? - Work for something that you additionally have to pay is certainly not on top of anyone’s list... especially completing what is checked anyway - it means double work! Maybe we should reverse the whole process: It is more satisfying to control than complete and get controlled…

Was bei der Steuererklärung immer wieder ein sehr unklarer Punkt ist, ist der Begriff Konkubinat: Was genau ist ein Konkubinat? Ist es ein Unterschied, ob man mit oder ohne Sex in einem Haushalt lebt?? - Die Zeiten ändern sich kontinuierlich und wir werden hoffentlich endlich toleranter… aber weshalb ist es immer noch ein Unterschied, ob man mit einem (homosexuellen oder Ehe-) Partner zusammenlebt oder mit Verwandten oder Kollegen in sogenannten Wohngemeinschaften??? – Eine Wohngemeinschaft ist doch eine Wohngemeinschaft – mit oder ohne Sex!? Es ist doch schon positiv, dass nicht jeder alleine wohnt und so noch einigermassen fähig ist zu teilen… sei es Platz (der bei den viel zu vielen Menschen auf diesem Planeten immer knapper wird), Infrastruktur (auch hier spart Teilen viele Kosten und Energie für die Anschaffung, Herstellung und Entsorgung) oder Lebenskosten allgemein… zudem bewahrt es soziale Fähigkeiten, die für das menschliche Zusammenleben essentiell sind!

What is always a very unclear point, is the term of concubinage (in Switzerland it is an expression for a quasi-marital cohabitation): What exactly is concubinage? Is it a difference if you live in a household with or without sex?? - Times change continuously and we are hopefully becoming more tolerant finally... but why is it still a difference if you live with a (homosexual or married) partner or with relatives or colleagues in so-called living communities??? - A living community is a living community - with or without sex!? Isn’t it already positive enough, that not everyone lives alone by himself and so still is reasonably able to share... be it space (which is becoming increasingly scarce among the far too many people on this planet), infrastructure (even here sharing saves many costs and energy for purchase, production and disposal) or living costs in general... it also preserves social skills which are essential for human coexistence!

Wie könnte man Steuern effizienter, fairer und cleverer einziehen? - Alles direkt besteuern??? So würden die, die viel Geld auszugeben haben auch mehr Steuern bezahlen. Zu viele Menschen werden reich… ist das gerecht oder Glück? Sollten wir nicht wieder dankbarer sein für das Glück, das wir haben und es teilen?? Glück teilen bedeutet es zu verdoppeln! Jeder, der das schon gemacht hat, weiss das.

How could taxes be raised more efficiently, fairly and cleverly? - Taxing everything directly??? Consequently those, who have a lot of money to spend, would pay more taxes. Too many people are getting rich... is that fair or good luck? Shouldn’t we be more grateful for being lucky and share our fortune? Sharing luck and happiness means doubling it! Everybody knows who has already experienced it.

Wenn wir Steuern mit dem, was wir verbrauchen, bezahlen, können wir zudem auch bewusst den Markt beeinflussen… und (neue) Labels wie ‘mit Liebe‘ (= verbessertes ex-Bio Label, das es wahrscheinlich so noch nicht gibt – aber ich bin sicher, das wird der nächste Schritt sein!) und Inlandprodukte subventionieren bzw. mit Steuern begünstigen und so Arbeit sichern sowie Verantwortung schulen…

In addition, if we pay taxes on what we consume, we can influence the market consciously... and subsidise resp. cut taxes for (new) labels such as 'with love' (= improved ex-bio label that probably does not exist yet – but I am sure this will be our next step!) and domestic products, which secure work and train responsibility…
