30.07. – 29.09.2015 Schweiz: Loslassen / Switzerland: Letting go

For a long time I had no words for what had happened in the last year... too many things and all at the same time, so that I could not really digest as I had to function! The trip to Northern Spain and Portugal did me really good, but as soon as I was back home, I nunned myself for a while to digest it all...

One year ago I started my new life... I had no idea what was expecting me! How did I only know at that time that my life would change that much? Sure, I had quit my permanent job as a teacher and financially took the plunge into the unknown, which couldn’t have been more uncertain...

I had to say goodbye to dreams and fortunately also to illusions... I suddenly had to deal with a reality that could not have been clearer and brought me back down to earth... I became aware that I was not able to see reality because I refused to believe it... because I imagined differently?

Actually, I always trusted in the people... until they start cheating (lying and stealing)... I am aware that opportunities make thieves, but some people are so cunning that it is deliberate manipulation - which I cannot accept at all, neither if it happens to me nor to others! Mouad did not only steal money from me, but he also lied to me and his whole family... When I travel and catch someone cheating, I tell them, that in this case it is a pity that the work of one has an impact on an entire nation... these experiences will be retold and damage reputation... : ( And I don’t want to trust anybody anymore just because of one idiot!?

So I had to let go of imaginations... and that was good, because then I got rid of old load and had more space for new! I also had let go the past... and that was even better, because it taught me to be more aware of the here and now!! And what's more than the here and now? - Only the past which manipulates our minds, and the future, whose imaginations result from our mind limited by the past…

If we learn from everything, we can let go of it gratefully and concentrate on the here and now, on life. Perhaps we even find our destiny? Indeed, everything has its reason - even if we do not recognize it at the moment... But I think the important thing is that we always consciously learn in order to get on. Without worrying for the future - what do we know what will happen? We can only draw conclusions from experiences of our past and construct hypotheses. Conclusions or interpretations can be correct only for the moment, because everything changes continuously and any similar situation nevertheless is unique and new... hypotheses are not facts but possibilities...

That’s how I could process much of the past (learn and recognize a sense) and let go... and I was able to slowly feel comfortable again in the here and now... : )

01.04. - 30.06.2015 Schweiz / Switzerland: Regenerieren / Regenerating

Regenerieren
Regenerating

Hansruedi quickly recovered well, although his cough returned...

The house moving was massive! The distance was only about half a kilometer, but we had such a lot of belongings, which we had easily kept in the 7 rooms at Aarauerstrasse in spacious closets and cellars... This meant inevitably separating from many things, as in Gartenweg there are only 4 rooms awaiting us - and without any closets! Fortunately, we had active help: Hansruedi helicopter buddies lent a hand for 2 days and girlfriends helped with the final cleaning! : ) In no time I also created a new home, but thereafter I only was one thing: tired!

I finally gave the Citroen, Mouad had bought in Spain for us, to friends in Galicia... whom I will visit soon! : ) But what a fuss until I got there: Mouad did not help me and it was end of March until I finally got the papers by mail! The car had a flat tire did not start and the central locking wasn’t working... in addition it was quite dented and the color had faded... Manuel made it roadworthy and drove it to Galicia accompanied by a friend with a trailer, in case there were any problems! : )

I could and had to let go many things now, which was not so easy... and I needed a lot of time for myself... to recuperate, to regenerate, to settle and to reorientate...

31.01. - 31.03.2015 Schweiz / Switzerland: Kollaps / Collapse

Kollaps
Collapse

On Saturday evening the 31st of January Hansruedi came home earlier than usual. He did not feel well and wanted to lie down before we would go out for dinner with friends. His cough had become persistent and seemed not wanting to stop... I asked if I could help with anything, but all he wanted was to sleep. When I went to check after a while, he was shivering, so I put an extra blanket over him. Several minutes later when I went to look again, he was lying in his own blood in the bathroom on the floor... That was a warning signal for me and I called the emergency services. Immediately two paramedics were sent to the check the situation and Hansruedi was transported to the regional hospital in Menziken. There he was examined and when it was clear that he had a severe blood poisoning, he was immediately transferred to the Kantonsspital in Aarau...

On Sunday morning before 8 am I received a phone call of the authorized doctor, who told me that Hansruedi's condition was very critical and they had not yet found what had caused the blood poisoning... In the afternoon I had a meeting with the chief physician, who made it again clear to me that he still was in critical condition. Furthermore she informed me that a wide range of antibiotics was administered, since the cause was still not identified. As Hansruedi had taken medicine against everything all his life and there was an arsenal of them in his bedside table, I thought that this surely was relevant for the doctors... so I had taken all with me. Strangely enough it turned out that Hansruedi had not taken any drugs for 2 weeks now, since Chris and I had chosen and explored his cough as our main subject... Fortunately! Maybe it had also accelerated the collapse, but like this a fairly neutral base was offered to the current antibiotics... and they seemed to work well! : )

At home, I once again tried to go into and understand the world of bacteria... and I wondered whether a microbiome could regenerate itself? - Immediately I got the following answer: Yes, we can control it consciously! On Monday, when I visited Hansruedi at the intensive care unit in Aarau, I told him about my thoughts and that he should give it a try. The chief physician gave me the good news that Hansruedi's condition was stable now and the pathogen found: The Escherichia Coli, a well studied bacterium which occurs in the gut... But what has that got to do with his cough? Nothingl??

Hansruedi was transferred to the hospital in Menziken and had a great care of chief physician Peter Siegenthaler, who made further very interesting considerations: The E. coli is very likely to have passed through the saddle friction of the racing bikes into his blood...

But there was still another problem to be solved: We did not have a new apartment yet and the owner had cancelled our rental contract by March 31st... After 23 years we had to leave Aarauerstrasse 10, after the owner after 20 years finally had begun with urgent renovations... In July last year before I left for Morocco, all fitted carpets have been replaced by laminates, urgent wall and ceiling repairs carried out and the walls partially painted... We had only just looked at one apartment before Hansruedi's collapse and now he was incapable of acting! I explained the owners our situation and asked for an extension of the deadline, but a clear no made us understand that we had to act…

Hansruedi liked the 4-room attic apartment in the Gartenstrasse very much, and during his stay at the hospital he settled its purchase! So this now meant to transform the shell construction into a habitable apartment within 6 weeks... to pack and clear... And there was a lot to clear, because the goods we had accumulated during 23 years and stowed in 7 rooms including 3 built-in wardrobes and 2 basement rooms, never fitted in our new 4-room apartment with no built-in wardrobe and only one basement room! The worst part was: Hansruedi went to Thailand for 3 weeks and left the clearing and packing to me!!! : ((( I had more sleepless nights and was also close to collapsing… But somehow, everything worked out in the end, with the great help of the workers and our friend, who actively helped with moving! : )
