Am
Samstag Abend den 31. Januar kam Hansruedi früher als gewohnt nach Hause. Er
fühlte sich nicht gut und wollte sich hinlegen bevor wir mir Freunden essen
gehen würden. Sein Husten war wieder hartnäckiger geworden und schien nicht aufhören zu wollen… Ich fragte, ob ich mit irgendetwas helfen könne, aber
er wollte nichts als schlafen. Als ich nach einer Weile nachschauen ging,
schlotterte er und ich legte eine zusätzliche Decke über ihn. Als ich einige
Minuten später nach ihm schaute, lag er in seinem eigenen Blut im Bad auf dem
Boden… Das war für mich das Alarmzeichen und ich rief den Notdienst an. Sofort
wurden zwei Sanitäter geschickt, die die Situation abcheckten und Hansruedi
schliesslich ins Regionalspital Menziken brachten. Dort wurde er untersucht und
als feststand, dass er eine schwere Blutvergiftung hatte, wurde er sofort ins
Kantonsspital Aarau verlegt…
Am
Sonntag Morgen noch vor 8 Uhr erhielt ich einen Anruf des verantwortlichen
Arztes, der mir mitteilte, dass Hansruedis Zustand sehr kritisch sei und man
noch nicht herausgefunden hatte, was die Blutvergiftung verursacht hatte… Am
Nachmittag hatte ich einen Termin mit der Chefärztin, die mir nochmals zu
verstehen gab, dass er noch stets in Lebensgefahr schwebte. Weiter
informierte sie mich, dass eine breite Palette von Antibiotika verabreicht
wurde, da der Erreger noch stets nicht identifiziert worden war. Da Hansruedi
sein Leben lang gegen alles Medikamente eingenommen hatte und ein ganzes
Arsenal davon in seinem Nachttisch lag, dachte ich, dass dies für die Ärzte sicher
relevant zu wissen ist... deshalb hatte ich alles eingepackt und mitgebracht. Nun
stellte sich merkwürdigerweise heraus, dass Hansruedi schon 2 Wochen keinerlei
Medikamente mehr zu sich genommen hatte, seit Chris und ich seinen Husten als
Hauptthema erkoren und erforscht hatten… und das war sein Glück! Vielleicht
hatte es auch den Kollaps beschleunigt, aber so bot es den jetzigen Antibiotika
eine ziemlich neutrale Basis... und sie schienen gut zu wirken! : )
Zuhause
versuchte ich nochmals in die Welt der Bakterien einzutauchen… und ich fragte
mich, ob sich ein Mikrobioms selber regenerieren kann? – Postwenden erhielt ich
die Antwort: Ja, wir können das bewusst steuern! Am Montag, als ich Hansruedi in
Aarau in der Intensivstation besuchte, erzählte ich ihm von meinem Gedanken und
dass er diesen bewusst aufrufen solle. Die Chefärztin übergab mir die gute
Neuigkeit, dass Hansruedis Zustand jetzt stabil seit und der Erreger gefunden war:
Der Escherichia Coli, ein vielerforschtes Bakterium, das im Darm vorkommt… Nur,
was hat das mit seinem Husten zu tun? Nichts??
Hansruedi
wurde ins Spital Menziken verlegt und hatte eine super Betreuung von Chefarzt Peter
Siegenthaler, der weitere sehr interessante Überlegungen anstellte: Der E. Coli
ist sehr wahrscheinlich durch die Sattelreibung des Rennvelos ins Blut gelangt…
Nun
hatten wir aber noch ein anderes Problem: Wir hatten noch keine neue Wohnung
und uns wurde auf den 31. März gekündigt… Nach 23 Jahren mussten wir die
Aarauerstrasse 10 verlassen, nachdem die Vermieter endlich nach 20 Jahren mit dringende Renovationen begonnen hatten… Im Juli letztes Jahr, bevor ich nach
Marokko fuhr, wurden alle Spannteppiche durch Laminate ersetzt, dringende Wand- und
Deckenreparaturen durchgeführt und die Wände teilweise gestrichen… Wir hatten
vor Hansruedis Kollaps nur gerade eine Wohnung angeschaut und nun war er
handlungsunfähig! Ich schilderte unserem Vermieter die Situation und fragte, ob
wir die Frist verlängern könnten, aber ein klares Nein machte es uns unmissverständlich,
dass wir handeln mussten…
On Saturday evening the 31st of January Hansruedi came home earlier than usual. He did not feel well and wanted to lie down before we would go out for dinner with friends. His cough had become persistent and seemed not wanting to stop... I asked if I could help with anything, but all he wanted was to sleep. When I went to check after a while, he was shivering, so I put an extra blanket over him. Several minutes later when I went to look again, he was lying in his own blood in the bathroom on the floor... That was a warning signal for me and I called the emergency services. Immediately two paramedics were sent to the check the situation and Hansruedi was transported to the regional hospital in Menziken. There he was examined and when it was clear that he had a severe blood poisoning, he was immediately transferred to the Kantonsspital in Aarau...
On Sunday morning before 8 am I received a phone call of the authorized doctor, who told me that Hansruedi's condition was very critical and they had not yet found what had caused the blood poisoning... In the afternoon I had a meeting with the chief physician, who made it again clear to me that he still was in critical condition. Furthermore she informed me that a wide range of antibiotics was administered, since the cause was still not identified. As Hansruedi had taken medicine against everything all his life and there was an arsenal of them in his bedside table, I thought that this surely was relevant for the doctors... so I had taken all with me. Strangely enough it turned out that Hansruedi had not taken any drugs for 2 weeks now, since Chris and I had chosen and explored his cough as our main subject... Fortunately! Maybe it had also accelerated the collapse, but like this a fairly neutral base was offered to the current antibiotics... and they seemed to work well! : )
At home, I once again tried to go into and understand the world of bacteria... and I wondered whether a microbiome could regenerate itself? - Immediately I got the following answer: Yes, we can control it consciously! On Monday, when I visited Hansruedi at the intensive care unit in Aarau, I told him about my thoughts and that he should give it a try. The chief physician gave me the good news that Hansruedi's condition was stable now and the pathogen found: The Escherichia Coli, a well studied bacterium which occurs in the gut... But what has that got to do with his cough? Nothingl??
Hansruedi was transferred to the hospital in Menziken and had a great care of chief physician Peter Siegenthaler, who made further very interesting considerations: The E. coli is very likely to have passed through the saddle friction of the racing bikes into his blood...
But there was still another problem to be solved: We did not have a new apartment yet and the owner had cancelled our rental contract by March 31st... After 23 years we had to leave Aarauerstrasse 10, after the owner after 20 years finally had begun with urgent renovations... In July last year before I left for Morocco, all fitted carpets have been replaced by laminates, urgent wall and ceiling repairs carried out and the walls partially painted... We had only just looked at one apartment before Hansruedi's collapse and now he was incapable of acting! I explained the owners our situation and asked for an extension of the deadline, but a clear no made us understand that we had to act…

Hansruedi
gefiel die 4-Zimmer Attikawohnung in der Gartenstrasse sehr, die wir besichtigt
hatten, und so wickelte er dessen Kauf während seines Spitalaufenthaltes ab! Nun
hiess es also den Rohbau in 6 Wochen bewohnbar zu machen… zu packen und räumen…
Und zu räumen gab es viel, denn die Ware die wir während 23 Jahren angesammelt und
in 7 Zimmer, 3 Einbauschränke und 2 Keller verstaut hatten, hatte in der neuen
4-Zimmer Wohnung ohne Einbauschrank und mit nur einem Keller niemals Platz! Das Schimmste war: Hansruedi fuhr 3 Wochen nach Thailand und überliess mir das Räumen und Packen!!! : ((( Ich
hatte weitere schlaflose Nächte und war ebenfalls einem Kollaps nahe… Aber
irgendwie klappte am Ende alles, mit grossartiger Hilfe der Arbeiter und unserer
Freunde, die tatkräftig beim Umzug mithalfen! : )

Hansruedi liked the 4-room attic apartment in the Gartenstrasse very much, and during
his stay at the hospital he settled its purchase! So this now meant to transform
the shell construction into a habitable apartment within 6 weeks... to pack and
clear... And there was a lot to clear, because the goods we had accumulated
during 23 years and stowed in 7 rooms including 3 built-in wardrobes and 2 basement
rooms, never fitted in our new 4-room apartment with no built-in wardrobe and only
one basement room! The worst part was: Hansruedi went to Thailand for 3 weeks and left the clearing and packing to me!!! : ((( I had more sleepless nights and was also close to collapsing… But somehow, everything worked out in the end, with the great help of the workers and our friend, who actively helped with moving! : )
